Product Information

A blue and white transferware platter or serving plate in 'Landscape' pattern, made by Staffordshire pottery company Midwinter.

The centre pattern features a country scene with a couple strolling through a garden with a bridge and columned gazebo in the near background and a pagoda in the distant background.  The border has a beautiful geometric floral pattern.

There are minor scratches to the surface (you need to look hard to see) and some discolouration on the back commensurate with age but overall in very good condition.

Circa 1920s. Dimensions: 18' x 14" (45.7 cm x 35.5 cm)

The Midwinter Pottery was set up by William Robinson Midwinter after 14 years working at the Doulton Factory in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent.  The business was incorporated as W. R. Midwinter Ltd in 1932 and after that date the backstamp featured the word Ltd.  By the early 1940s the company employed around 700 people.  In the late 1960s Midwinter hit financial difficulties and in 1968 merged with J & G Meakin under 'British Tableware Ltd, which was then taken over by the Wedgwood group in 1970.
