An antique solid silver Christening Set

An exceptionally pretty solid silver Edwardian christening set comprising egg cup, napkin ring and spoon in the original velvet and satin lined leather-bound case.

The egg cup is shaped as a tankard, which is very rare, and takes a large size egg.

The case is in exceptional condition, with hinges and catch working well. The surface area has no damage with only very minor scuffs. Inside is pristine with the purple velvet near perfect.

This set is free from any engraved initials and there is an empty cartouche in the centre of the napkin ring. All the items are very clear, with no dents or scratches, etc.

The egg cup and napkin ring bear hall marks Sheffield 1906, Birmingham 1906; the child’s spoon is dated slightly later, Sheffield 1916 (it was probably replaced 100 years ago and has been part of the set ever since). Each bears the Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver.

The top edge of egg cup had a tiny spot of solder just next to handle on the inside, this does not show at all on outside.

The total combined weight of the silver is 73.25 grams, with the egg cup weighing 46.74 grams.
