A beautifully crafted antique sterling silver tennis racquet brooch, featuring a finely engraved string face with a raised ball at the centre and elegant ribbing to the handle.

Made in Birmingham in 1890, just thirteen years after the inaugural Wimbledon Championships, at a time when lawn tennis was still a thrillingly new pursuit for fashionable Victorian society.

Bearing sterling silver hallmarks for Birmingham Jewellery Quarter silversmiths Abrahall & Bint,1890. The hallmarks are partially rubbed with age, as is common on pieces of this period, but remain legible.

A lovely gift for a tennis enthusiast or a great addition to any collection of antique British silver novelty jewellery.

In good antique condition commensurate with its age, showing light surface wear and character marks consistent with its 130+ year history.
