A lovely vintage double horseshoe and beautifully detailed crop brooch. In good working condition with some sign of wear commensurate with its age.

Width: 6.1 cm  Height 2.5 cm Weight 7 g

Both horseshoes and coins were cast from iron, but sometimes the shoes were more valuable. During the Crusades of the 12th century, horseshoes were accepted in lieu of money to pay taxes.  In ancient times if someone found a horseshoe it could be exchanged for money if the metal horseshoe was more valuable.   Consequently the horseshoe became a good luck symbol
