A Vintage Lalique Rapace Bird Dish

Product Information

A Vintage Lalique Rapace small dish featuring a beautiful sculpture of a bird in frosted crystal on a clear glass base.

The base of the dish is etched Lalique ® France. It dates circa 1980s.

Dimensions: 9.6 cm (3¾") in diameter. Height: 7.75cm (3").

The dish is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. It still has its original 'Lalique' label and is very possibly unused. It comes with its original box, however the box is not in good condition (see images) - but has protected its contents well.

Rapace - or bird of prey - is one of the most detailed and successful of the animal pin dishes created by René Lalique and then by his son Marc. The original design dates to 1931 and it appeared in Lalique's catalogue in 1932 and 1937. It then disappeared until 1960 when it was reintroduced by Marc Lalique.

Famous glassmaker and jeweller René Lalique founded his eponymous company in 1888. Best known for producing glass art - perfume bottles, car hood ornaments, vases - Lalique items are eminently collectable today, with Lalique crystal being the ultimate symbol of French luxury.

Please note this is a vintage piece and there is only one available.
