Christian Dior's reputation as one of the most celebrated couturiers of the 20th century was launched in 1947 with his groundbreaking 'New Look' collection, which celebrated ultra-femininity and opulence in women's fashion.  Dior launched his first collection of fashion jewellery in 1948 to complement his garments, enlisting some of the most talented designers of the time.

Robert Goossens, the designer of this brooch, was an exceptional French jewellery known as Monsieur Bijou. He created jewels for several of haute couture houses, including Yves St Laurent, Chanel, Balenciaga, and of course, the House of Dior
