The Symbolism Behind the Orb

The iconic Vivienne Westwood logo, known as "The Orb," beautifully encapsulates the designer's philosophy of bringing the past into the future. The central element is inspired by the Sovereign's Orb, a piece of the British Crown Jewels that symbolises the monarch's power and tradition. Dame Vivienne then subverted this royal insignia by adding the futuristic, celestial rings of the planet Saturn around it. This fusion of the traditional orb with the space-age ring represents a perfect blend of heritage and a forward-thinking, punk-futuristic vision.

Vivienne Westwood, the iconic British fashion designer, rose to prominence in the 1970s with rebellious avant-garde designs fusing punk aesthetics with traditional British elegance. Her creations have attracted high-profile clients including Dita Von Teese, Naomi Campbell, and Princess Eugenie. In the 1980s, Westwood began designing jewellery, incorporating her signature Saturn Orb motif into striking, unconventional pieces that reflected her flair for blending history, art, and subversion.
